Yep, minus the talent. And rather than eclectic electronic tunes, the accompanying music is a combination of male insects vibrating the membranes under their wings coupled with a periodic dull thud (that'd be me banging my head against a wall).

Last time the cicadas were around, I had a summer job working at the Wolf Trap Stage Door. There aren't any where I am now, just east of Pittsburgh. (Jason, I should have read this entry before I posted, on your old site, a question about whether you were moving.)

For those not familiar with Wolf Trap, it's a national park with an outdoor theatre, so the cicada were very present to audiences that summer. (Fortunately they quieted down when it got dark, just before the shows would start.)

Wolf Trap - I really enjoy seeing shows there on the lawn. Bring a cooler with food and beer/wine and relax. Always a good time.

The cicadas, while fascinating, aren't quite the plague-like proportions I was expecting, except for occasional bouts of swarming. Still, they've certainly made an impression (well, more a smear on the sidewalks...).

You're right though, they tend to quiet when it gets dark, which I wasn't expecting at all.
